At 22, as a mother of two children, I should have learned to drive by now. However, at 17, the legal ageto begindriving lessons uk, I wasn't interested in anything except partying. My daughter was born when I was 18, and it was then that I started to consider the options.

Although up to that point, I had been adamant I would get a motorcycle, I agreed to a deal with my parents; if I took instruction to learn to drive a car, they would then pay for further instruction to ride a motorcycle. This seemed a good deal, so I began my driving lessons.

I think my Dad's general plan was that I would sail through the lessons, pass my theory and practical tests with no problem, and then wewould choose an insurance group and a second handvehicle. A new car would just be too expensive to insure for a newly qualified driver. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way.

By thefifteenth lesson,it was obvious the instruction was not getting mevery far. My instructor didn't like me, and I didn't like him. As for my driving,no insurance group would want anything to do with me if they saw howterrible it was!I swear that post box jumped out in front of me, honest! And I didn't mean to get distracted watching the cat on the garden wall across the road!

I'm sure a motorcycle would be easier as it's smaller and probablynot so difficultto control, but it's not exactly practical for the school run, and my Dad still wants me to learn to drive. Hesays he can help me get the best deal with a good insurance group once I have passed my tests.

For now though, I'm taking a break and asking around to find out which UK driving school is most recommended. My daughter starts school next month, and it's a half hour walk from our house. I'll be kicking myself in December, when I've got the baby bundled up in the pushchair, snowflakes in my hair, and my daughter ruining her new school socks by jumping in muddy snow!
